W/C 4th September

This week we will be getting to know each other and our new routine. We will get to know the weekly timetable, where we need to be at what time, and what to bring to school each day. PE days will be Tuesday and Wednesday so remember to wear your kits on those days.

Maths

For the next 3 weeks we will be focusing on the Place Value unit.

Yr 4 will start with representing numbers up to 1,000, partitioning those numbers and using number line before focusing on numbers in the thousands up to 10,000.

Yr 5 will start with Roman numerals up to 1,000 and then looking at numbers up to 1,000,000.

Literacy

This week, we will begin by exploring our text for this term together. We will use the images from the text to inspire a piece of independent writing. We will be setting the expectations for handwriting and presentation with some children working towards earning their pen license for joined handwriting. We will be sending home new reading books, reading diaries and new spelling books, so we will spend some time this week looking at these.

RE

This half term we are thinking about and answering the main question: What is holiness for Jewish people: a place, a time, an object or something else?

To begin with we will be exploring the questions: Why is a scroll ' holy' for Jewish people? What does holy mean?

Art - Our Art project this half term is Typography and Maps. We will be studying the work by the artists Louise Fili, Grayson Perry, Paula Scher and Chris Kenny.

This week we will be creating an artist profile on Lousie Fili and learning about what typography is.
