Fittleworth CE Village School is currently organised into 5 classes as follows:
Beech Oak Maple Ash Cedar | Year R and Year 1 Year 1 and Year 2 Year 3 and Year 4 Year 4 and Year 5 Year 6 |
As in most smaller rural schools where the intake number is not large enough to support discrete year groups, every child will at some point need to spend more than one year in the same registration group. Rather than taking the easy option of drawing lines by age alone, we look at individual pupil progress and social and emotional development and base our judgements on what would be best for the child. Children benefit from our ability to shift the dynamics of a class and to tailor their education to best fit their individual needs.
While it is inevitable that numbers in some classes might be higher, children are often grouped and taught in much smaller groups. Teaching Assistants play a very important part in the school and the children benefit greatly from the presence of additional adults in class. Parents are welcome to help within the classroom and their help and expertise are highly valued.
ADDITIONAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS
Mrs Louise Hayter co-ordinates programs for those children who have learning difficulties. Children are adapted for within the classroom to support their specific individual learning needs but teachers and teaching assistants also support Individual Education Plans. Mrs. Burnett co-ordinates the programme and ensures a range of tasks and activities are in place to challenge children that are exceeding their year groups expectations. An inclusion register for SEN and children being monitored is available on request.

Beginning of the School Day
Children should arrive at the top gate and entre the playground ready to line up in their classes. Teachers will lead the class in at the start of the school day. Children should not arrive early or be left on the playgroup until an adult is supervising the top gate. Mrs Burnett will be on the gate to welcome the children in each morning.
Breakfast club is available but should be booked in advance with Karen at Fittleworth Preschool. We do encourage children from year 1 up to be left at the top gate and to line up by themselves, but understand that at the beginning of a school year this may be daunting so will be more flexible should a child need their parent wo walk down. We are happy for reception parents to bring their child to the class door and hand over to the class teacher. If you are late for school, please bring your child in via the office so that the registers can be marked accordingly.
End of the School Day
Beech class (Reception/Year 1) and Oak Class (Year 1/2) should be collected from their classroom door. All other classes will be brought to meet you on the front playground. In order to safeguard your child we need to be informed in writing if you make alternative arrangements to have your child met from school by somebody else before the end of the school day.
