W/C 1st Jan

Happy New Year to you all. We hope you had a lovely Christmas and are ready to embrace 2024!

Don't forget it is an INSET day on Tuesday so we look forwards to seeing everyone back in school on Wednesday 3rd January. A 3 day week is a nice way to ease us into the new year.

Maths

Yr 4 - To start this term we will be continuing with Multiplication and Division. To start with we will be learning about factor pairs, how we can use factor pairs and multiplying by 10.

Yr 5 - For the beginning of this term we will be going back to Multipication and Division and be revisiting the formal methods. This week we will start with the formal method to multipy a 4 digit number by 1 digit (3524 x 6) and then a 2 digit number by a 2 digit number (43 x 19).

Literacy

In Ash, this term we will be reading a book called 'The boy at the back of the class' written by Onjali Q. Raúf. We will start the week by reading the story, thinking and answering questions about the text.

In Maple Class will be reading our new text together, using expanded noun phrases to describe what we can see in / from a lighthouse, then creating a list of jobs for a lighthouse keeper using subheadings. These skills will help us to write a letter next week to the lighthouse keeper's wife.

Art

Our Art unit this term is 'Exploring Patterns'. To begin with we will be making sensory patterns without a theme or subject focus. We will be using needles and a variety of pencils, working on thicker paper. We will be creating an artist profile about Shaheen Ahmed and exploring her patterns, signs and motifs that hold significance to her identity.

RE

Our main question for this half term is: What are important times for Jews?

To begin with we will be thinking about the significant times in our lives so far...and what might be in the future.

Computing

Yr 4 - Our unit for this half term is data logging. This week we will be considering how data can be collected . We will think about questions  that can and cannot be answered using available data and reflect on the importance of collecting the right data to answer the questions.

Yr 5 - This half term we will be creating podcasts. To start, we will learn how we can record and save our voices.
