Oak Class

If you are continuing with home learning for now, take a look at our class page to find out about our new topic and do your best to follow the daily tasks I set. Keep sending me photos of your work and I will post photos on the website of the learning we do in school. We will be together again as a whole class very soon I am sure.

Mrs Westbrook x

Please see the Oak Class page for your child's home learning. Please do not hesitate to contact me via email and please encourage your child/ren to contact me via Class Dojo.

I appreciate that 'Home Learning' will look different for every family. Please do not feel any unnecessary pressure to complete all, or indeed any, of what I suggest on a daily basis. What I post will be activities that children can complete independently to hopefully allow working parents to carry on as best you can around your children. It is also intended to be ideas for those of you who may be feeling the boredom or frustration of trying to entertain your children in this strange time. Remember, there is no need to try to keep your child/ren 'on track' with their learning; just provide for their emotional needs by keeping calm, patient and loving towards them. Play games, read books and enjoy this time together. You are all doing a great job! X

*If you are keen to do more, the BBC have put together a channel, accessible from tomorrow morning with daily tasks that will link to the White Rose Hub for Maths and the National Curriculum for all other areas of learning. Click here to check it out... BBC Bitesize Home Learning channel.

*The government have also put together an extensive list of useful resources should you wish to use the. Click here to have a look ... Covid-19 Online Educational Resources.

Otherwise, please check the Oak Class page daily for my updates and suggested activities based on the topic we would be doing in school.

Reading: Unfortunately, libraries are now closed but please keep reading any books you may have at home. Oxford Owl Reading site are offering free e-books so do check out their website. You may wish to record any reading you do with your child at home, or write book reviews, stories  or fact files based on what you have read. Our current topic is the Woodlands but your reading doesn't have to link to this directly for now.

Maths: The White Rose Hub is offering a free 'Problem of the Day' which you could sign up for & challenge your child to. Primary Stars has a fantastic website offering free resources for parents at this time but you may need a printer should you wish to use this. Maths Shed is another great website!

Writing: Your children are always to encouraged to write at any opportunity! Why not keep a diary over the next few days / weeks? Or ask your child to write a shopping list before your next trip to the supermarket. They could write a story about an adventure in the garden with mythical creatures or an enchanted wood.

Purple Mash: I will be updating the Purple Mash site daily should we be closed. Please do encourage your child to log in at home & carry out any 'Alerts' they may have. These activities will be linked to our topics or the curriculum objectives we would be due to cover in class. I would like to make myself accessible to you as much as I can in this time with the understanding that I will be home schooling my own children should we close. There is a link to be able to email me via Purple Mash which I will be encouraging the children to use if they have any questions for me. Even if it's just to say 'hello'! I will be checking Purple Mash and my school email address daily to ensure I respond to any questions or concerns you may have.

Stay safe everyone! Mrs W :)
