W/C 25th September

Maths

Yr 5 - This week we are moving onto the Addition and Subtraction unit. It will start using mental strategies before progressing to using formal methods to add and subtract numbers with more than 4 digits. We will then be rounding to check our answers and using the inverse operation to check.

 

Yr 4  - Continuing into the final week of the Place Value unit. This week we will be learning how to round numbers to 10, 100 and 1000.

 

Literacy in Ash - After spending lots of time learning about Everest, creating our word banks and watching some videos, we will be finishing our setting descriptions and editing them to make sure that they are they best they can be. We will share our writing with one another and offer advice on how we can improve it.

 

Literacy in Maple Class - This week we are using the text, 'Arthur and the Golden Rope' to explore our new grammar objectives. We will be learning how to use nouns, pronouns and capital letters. We will begin this unit by writing an 'unlikely hero' description for display. From here, we will plan a short story to perform to the class. How will our hero gain another magical item?

Science

Yr 3 - This week we will be naming and identifying bones in animals.

Yr 4 - We will be introduced to classification keys and using these to sort different animals.

Yr 5 - Last week we learnt about air resistance, this week we will be planning an investigation to test air resistance using parachutes.

 

History

Yr 3 - We will be exploring different homes from the Stone Age. What materials did they use to build their houses? How did they have their houses laid out inside? What can we learn about the Stone Age from the houses?

Yr 4 - We will be learning about daily life in Ancient Greece this week. What roles did the Greeks have? Where did they live? What did they eat?

Yr 5 -  We are starting to learn about the Bronze Age this week. Why was it called the Bronze Age? 

 

Art

We will be looking at messages with maps and working towards creating our own visual map We will look at the art work by Grayson Perry, Paula Scheer and Chris Kenny.

 

RE

This weeks questions are:

  • Where do people get their ideas about Jesus' identity?
  • What did Jesus say in the Bible about who he was?

 

Computing

Yr 5 - We will be will continuing to explore how to use microbits. We will start to write some simple codes and download them to our microbits.

Yr 4 - We will be using all we have learnt over the past few weeks to create a mood baord about ourselves.
