Spring 2

Welcome back, I hope you had a lovely half term break. It was nice to relax, be with family and friends without the worry of setting an alarm! I can't wait to hear about your week off school.

This half term ahead is always one of my favourites with the promise of Spring, warmer weather, our Year 3 residential to Goodwood and lots of other exciting things to look forward to.

Literacy

Mrs Murphy is keen to finish her class book this half term before enjoying a trip to the theatre to see the story come alive on the stage.

In Maple Class, we will be starting our new text, 'Ocean Meets Sky', by the Fan Brothers. This is such a beautifully illustrated text full of rich vocabulary. We will be producing lots of lovely pieces of writing as well as having interesting discussions about the storyline.

Maths

We are moving onto our fractions units in all year groups this half term. Year 3 will then move onto the learn about mass and capacity, with year 4s moving onto decimals.

History / Geography

On Tuesday mornings, we will be finishing our history learning for the first two weeks. Then we will be starting our geography units. Year 3 will be learning about our extreme earth, the layers of the earth, volcanoes and earthquakes. Year 4s will be considering settlements; where do people settle and why.

DT

This half term, we will be completing our sewing unit. The children will be given the opportunity to design and make something made of material which needs to be sewn together. We will be exploring a range of sewing patterns using a mock up before making our final design. We will be then evaluate our products before sharing them with the other classes and parents.

RE

Our big question this half term is, 'How does believing Jesus is their saviour help Christians to serve others?' We will be engaging with the idea of rescuing, saving and helping.  We will be exploring bible stories, Christian living and church practise. We will also have a very unique opportunity to interview people from the Salvation Army church.
