W/B 11th March

Tuesday forest school for year 2 - please wear layers, warm and waterproof clothes.

 

Wednesday is outside learning for year 1 - please bring appropriate clothes

 

Literacy - This week we will be using the text by Anthony Browne 'Into the forest'. We will be making links with other books we have read. We will be focusing this week on past and present tense. We will be drama of the story, sorting verbs, retelling the story using the past tense and writing as if we were in the forest using present tense.

 

Phonics - Year 2 will be working on this weeks spelling pattern, revising silent letters w, k, g and compound words and common exception words.

 

Year 1 will be looking at the alternative spellings for /tch/ and /dge/

 

Maths - Year 2 will be solving fractions of numbers and amounts, improving our arithmetic of the 4 calculations, then moving onto a unit on mass and capacity. We will be comparing mass and measuring in grams. At home you could do some cooking to developing an understanding of the weight of grams and kilograms.

 

Year 1 will be comparing lengths and heights, measuring length using objects and measuring length in cm. 

 

Geography - We will be developing our understanding of our place in the world, considering how we can make a change to our local area.

 

Art - We will be exploring the brush work of artists Van Gogh and Cezanne and using acrylic paints to make visual notes of their work. Please bring an old apron or oversized shirt.

 

Science - Year 1 will be exploring floating and sinking and year 2 will be exploring things that are living, dead or never been alive.

 

RE- We will be exploring how most Christians mark Palm Sunday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

 

RSE- We will be considering how to help keep us safe using the text 'Me and my fear'.
