Chickens at Fittleworth

We are very lucky to have a playing large field behind our school - large enough to have room for our school chickens! The chickens live in a run at the bottom of the field and we have a chicken rota which allows all children who want to, to sign up and care for the chickens. 

 

The children feed and water the chickens and gather the eggs. We use the eggs with the children when they are baking. Every spring we hatch a new brood of chicks and the children are able to see the eggs hatch, look after the chicks and eventually see them added to the existing chickens in the run.
