This week we are reading the story 'The Enormous Turnip.' We have the characters from the story in our small world, so the children can retell the story. We will be printing using different vegetables and making our very own vegetable soup. We will be writing a list of ingredients we need and we will be cutting the vegetables ourselves.
In drawing club, we will be introducing new vocabulary such as haul, heave, tug, colossal and scrumptious. We will be drawing the turnip, the garden, designing a machine to pull the turnip out and designing a new soup. We will use code words and sentences to make funny things happen.
We will be learning more about Chinese new year and how the festival of lanterns marks the end of the celebrations. we will be listening to Chinese music and making our own lanterns
In phonics, this week we will be learning the sounds /ar/, /or/, /ur/, /ow/. We are focusing on all the tricky words all, some, come, so and do. (see this week's phonics newsletter and last week's for our sounds)
In maths, we will be making pairs using socks and collecting natural objects and putting them in pairs e.g. 2 leaves, 2 stones etc. We will be finding pairs of numbers and making pairs using numicon. We will begin to combine two groups of numbers to find out how many there are altogether.
