At Fittleworth C of E Village school our EYFS curriculum aims to support all of our children to develop into confident, happy and independent learners. Through a nurturing and stimulating environment, the children are enabled to develop the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding to become lifelong learners, making a positive contribution to society and understanding the impact they can have by “letting their light shine.”
We understand the importance of play in a child’s development and believe that the correct mix of adult directed and uninterrupted child-initiated play ensures the best outcomes for pupils. Warm and positive relationships between staff and children, consistent routines and strong relationships with parents are key. We recognise the crucial role that Early Years education has to play in providing firm foundations upon which the rest of a child’s education is successfully based.
The phonics scheme we use is called Supersonic Phonic Friends. It was created by Phonics’ and Early Reading expert Anna Lucas and illustrated by artist, Fiona Cameron. Supersonic Phonic Friends is a fully systematic synthetic phonic approach. The scheme ensures children develop passion for reading and the confidence to independently apply each skill when reading and writing. Every lesson is fun and engaging and lessons are enriched with movement, a fundamental pre-writing skill and maximising learning connections.
We also enjoy 'Drawing Club' which was created by Early years expert Gregg Botrill. It involves a short period of time together as a whole class immersing the children in the world of story followed by time with children exploring their ideas and creativity. We share a rich vocabulary with the children and develop their creativity and imagination while giving them the confidence to draw, write and create stories independently.
