W/C 4th November

I hope you have all had a lovely week off and are ready to be fully engaged in our learning this half term.

We will be busy rehearsing 'Pirates v Mermaids' each week, please support your child learning the songs and their lines.

Literacy

To start this half term, we will be doing some independent writing. We will be looking to see if we can apply what we learnt last half term into our writing.

Maths

Yr 4 - We are starting a new unit on Area. We will be learning how to calculate area by counting squares and comparing shapes and their areas.

Yr 5 - We have a few lessons left in our Multiplication and Division unit of work. We will be dividing by 10, 100 and 1000 and looking at multiples related to these.

Geography

Y4 - This week is all about familiarising ourselves with the language of north and south. We will learn new vocab Hemispheres and Equator, before we begin our research into different countries from the North and South Hemispheres. How do these countries differ?

Yr 5 - To begin our unit on Mountain Ranges, we will simply be asking, What is a mountain? From here, we will locate the major mountain ranges using atlases and maps.

Science

Yr 3 - We are starting a new unit on 'Nutrition and Diet' . To begin with we will be looking at the 5 main food groups.

Yr 4 - We have now moved onto our 'States of Matter' unit. We have begun to learn about solids, liquids and gases. This week we will be looking at the changes of states.

Yr 5 - We have started our new unit on Space. This week we will be learning about the different planets in our solar system.

RE

Our big question this term is: 'What kind of world did Jesus want?'

Over the term we will be using the Gospels to find evidence that can help us to answer our question.

Computing

We are going to take part in the Bebras Challenge this year. The Bebras Challenge is a series of interactive tasks, designed to encourage logical thinking and problem-solving skills. We will take some time practising using previous challenges and then take on this years challenges next week.

DT

With Christmas play rehearsals in full swing this half term, we have decided to not have a weekly DT lesson, but save it for the end of the term and have a few DT mornings! This will mean we can fully focus our attention on the DT learning, make a mess without the pressure of cleaning away for the next lesson, and spend more time on the making process.
