The teacher leading Cedar class is Miss Lane. In the mornings we will have Ms Miller as our teaching assistant.  Targeted interventions will be given across the mornings as required.

Our learning

Each term we will study a new topic and, if relevant, we will explore these areas from an environmental aspect. Our topics will be as follows:

Autumn 1 - WWII

Autumn 2 - Rainforests, Deserts and Antarctica

Spring 1 - Crime and Punishment through the ages 

Spring 2 - Food origins and trade

Summer 1 - Local study

Summer 2 - Rivers and Coasts

Important events throughout the week are as follows:

1. The children need to wear their P.E. kits on a Monday and a Tuesday 

2. Reading Diaries will be checked weekly

3. Home Spelling Books should come to school every Monday

1. Spelling patterns and rules (Practise 3-4 a week using Spelling Activities document (see below) and Home Spelling Books).

2. Maths activity - Maths Practice Books (these need to be purchased via MCAS - Please contact the office for further information if needed). 

Occasional homework:

1. Statutory common exception word spelling lists (termly - see below)

2.  Times tables fluency (as required)

3. Mental maths

4. Maths fluency sheets (as required)

Reading and Reading Diaries:

The children will be given opportunities each day to read in school. I will hear them read in these slots as often as possible. The children will still be expected to read at home. This can be independent reading by the child, but should include regular sessions reading with an adult (regardless of your child's reading 'fluency'). Please log this in their reading diary which will be checked weekly. 

In addition, I expect each child to hand in a completed 'Read and Respond' pack before the end of the Autumn Term. This can be found under Reading Resources. I have also uploaded a reading guide for parents.

Spelling Practice:

Your child will be given a copy of the Statutory Common exception word List to learn at home for the year, along with weekly spelling patterns to practise.

Each term the Statutory Word List will come home in their book bags once I have assessed each child and identified which words still need practising. These need to be gradually practised at home, selecting a few at a time. 

Finally, I appreciate that 'learning' spellings can be a frustrating and challenging for some children. We will support children who are struggling with targeted support and lists will be adapted if required.
