10th March

Forest school Tuesday for Year 2. Please wear appropriate clothes and bring PE kit in a bag to change into after.

INSET DAY IS WEDNESDAY

Literacy- This week we will be using books about saving the rainforest, using a video clip explaining what is happening to the rainforests and using the book 'Dear Greenpeace'. We will be finding out why people are destroying the rainforests and what impact that is having on the rainforests. We will be designing a poster to help people be more aware of what is happening. Also writing a letter to persuade people to be more aware.

Phonics - Year 2 will be learning the rule where you need to double the consonant and add est and consolidating previously learnt rules.

Year 1 are learning the "switch it spell" sounds. This is when sounds look the same but sound different. This week we will be focussing on /i/ as in kind and gift and /o/ as in soft and sofa. (see the parent phonics newsletter below)

Maths - Year 2 will be ordering lengths and heights, solving problems involving operation with length and height and practically measuring.

Year 1 will be learning one more and one less using numbers to 50 before moving on to a new topic in maths. Our new topic is length and height and this week we will compare lengths and heights and measure length using objects.

Geography - We will be reminding ourselves about the continents and where the rainforests are. We will be learning about the layers of the rainforests and what lives there and comparing it to the forests in England, especially where we live.

RE- We will be watching the Easter story and discussing the best symbols of death and destruction.

Design and Technology - We will be exploring levers.

RSE - We will be considering similarities and differences between ourselves.
