Monday Bank Holiday
THURSDAY is the 80th anniversary of VE DAY. We will be marking this special occasion with a special VE day assembly followed by an afternoon of fun activities on the field. The children DO NOT need to wear PE kits but are invited to dress up for the day as an evacuee, in uniform (eg. army, navy, RAF) or they can come dressed in red, white and blue.
In drawing club this week we are reading 'The Naughty Bus' by Jan and Jerry Oke. We will draw our own bus and our bus's journey and give the bus a magic code to make it do magical things. Our vocabulary ('get up, stand up words') are zooming, accelerate, brake, skyscrapers.
We are excited to start a Sunflower Challenge where we will become Sunflower experts. We will begin our challenge by trying to answer these questions:
What is a sunflower?
Do all sunflowers look the same?
Where do sunflowers grow?
Where can we find out more information about sunflowers?
If yo
We will also be exploring the seed packets and seeing what we notice on them We will be looking to see if we can find out what sunflowers look like, how to plant them, when to plant them, what are the different types of sunflowers, where we can buy them from and to see if we can spot any numbers and words on the seed packets.
We will also be drawing and painting sunflowers. We will be looking carefully and copying the colours patterns and shapes we see. We will look at how different artists draw and paint sunflowers and how they have created the shapes and patterns.
In maths, we will become maths detectives by estimating different amounts of sunflower seeds. We will put our seeds on a ten frame to see how many we have. We will then try to work out how many seeds and pots we need so everyone has one to plant. We will also be looking at number patterns beyond 10, we will be building numbers using 10 frames and counting beyond 20.
