w/b 8th November

This week we have our much anticipated Greek Day on Tuesday. The children, and the adults, will come to school dressed up in their Greek costumes, ready to take part in several Greek themed activities. I am very excited as I have no doubt the children will really enjoy thoroughly immersing themselves into the day. I will take lots of photos to share throughout the day on the dojo so parents, you don't feel left out!

Literacy: We will be learning more about the different word classes - nouns, adjectives, adverbs and verbs -  and using these in our sentence composition. This will help us to move forward into the next week when we begin to research and plan our non-chronological reports about Ancient Greece.

Maths: We are starting our multiplication and division unit this week. Due to 'catch up', we will be ensuring we have mastered the year 2 objectives of the 2x, 5x and 10x tables before we progress. At home, the children can be practising counting in these steps, as well as being quizzed on the division facts. The quicker the children can recall these facts, the easier they will find learning new times tables and spotting patterns.

Remembrance Day: We do have wrist bands, poppies and keyrings for sale in the office. Send a contribution of £1 or more with your child to school and they can buy their poppies during the school day. On Thursday we will be having a minutes' silence whilst we Zoom call a select few children at the church who will be standing with Father David and Mrs Burnett to show our respects to the fallen soldiers from Fittleworth.

Forest Schools: We have one more Forest Schools session on Monday so come to school dressed in appropriate clothes. Next Monday, we will be back to our usual PE day where we will be learning how to play basketball.

Christmas Play: Many of you will know our play this year is Peter Pan. We are joining Ash class and the rest of year 5 to perform our play. The children in Maple all have a part to play but not everyone has a line. This was the children's personal choice. We have started practising the songs together and the song words have been sent home now so please do help your child to read the words and learn the songs as best you can. It's going to be amazing!

That's all for this week. Any questions about Greek Day or anything else, do message me on the dojo.
