W/b 6th September

Welcome everyone to our first week together in Oak class. My aim this week is for us to get to know each other, find out where everything is in the classroom and know roughly what will happen during a school week. We will be creating our classroom rules, going on a word hunt to read and write words, switching our maths brains on again after the Summer, doing some art and telling me about yourself.

Hopefully you all did some nice things over the summer and I hope you will be able to share some of these with the class, even if you spent lots of time in the park! You could post photos onto dojo and I could maybe show the class them.

Any questions at any time please do message me on dojo and I will get back to as soon as I can.

PE is Monday and Wednesday.

Reading - Between myself and Oak's teaching assistants your child will be heard read and they will bring home a 'colour band' book. They will be also able to take home a 'golden book' from our bookcase for you to share together. This may or may not be able to be read by the child, but the aim is to help the children enjoy hearing stories, reading and improving their vocabulary. Please bare with us if they don't have one on the first day. Please try and read 5 times a week at home and record it in the diary, I check diaries daily and will change as appropriate.

Phonics - Why not play some games on phonic play. click here

At school we will be finding out which sounds they know.

Literacy - We will writing about our holidays and I will write as well! We will be reading and exploring 'Giraffes can't dance'. We will be looking at the rhyme and rhythm in the book. Also, we will be writing about things we can do and things we can't do YET! We will make a craft giraffe as part of this unit.

Maths - We will being on place value this week. Year 1's will be revising their understanding of place value to 10 with extension activities ready. Year 2 will be revising numbers to 50, comparing them and partitioning them. Again extension activities will be there ready.
