Well done to all those children who have been reading every day at home, or as much as they possibly can. It really makes such a difference to the children's fluency, confidence and enjoyment of reading. I will continue to give dojos when I can see the diary has been signed 5 times (days) in 7 days.
Christmas rehearsals are well underway now and this week we are using props and costumes for dress rehearsals. We will be practising every day to keep it fresh in the children's minds and to polish those last few scenes. Because of this, you will notice that this week we won't have as many topic based lessons. Literacy and maths and PE will remain the same, although they may be at different times to accommodate rehearsals in the hall etc....
Literacy: We are staring our new unit of poetry this week, focusing on festivals. We will be reading poems by a variety of authors as well using our own experience to draw upon. We will be exploring rhyming words, exciting vocabulary and experimenting with our voices to add expression when we perform our poems. This week, our focus is on carnivals. Have you ever been to a carnival? What was it like? What did you do there? How did you feel?
Maths: This week we are learning the 4 and 8 times tables. We will be multiplying and dividing by 4 and 8. We will be looking for patterns on a hundred square and using a range of visual representations to help secure these number facts.
PE: Basketball on Monday will be as normal but Dance on Thursday will need to be moved to another afternoon, possibly Tuesday if the school hall is available. We will dance in bare feet so no PE kits will need to be worn.
Please do keep reading and practising spellings at home. I will be assessing the children on the CEW list again this week to see how much progress they have made since the beginning of September. I will be encouraging the children to look at their lists at the back of their spelling books in class so please do the same at home.
That's all for this week.
Mrs W :)
