w/b 27th September

Welcome to another fun - filled week of learning. I can't quite believe we are at the beginning of week 4 already. It really is flying by!

Literacy: We are reading Pandora's Box this week as our key text for Whole Class Reading. We will then go on to use a range of Greek myths to support our learning of powerful verbs. Click on the link below for a rock song which will give you lots of examples of powerful verbs that you could use in your writing this week.

Maths: This week we are moving onto our Addition and Subtraction unit which will see us through until half term. We will be adding and subtracting multiples of 100, looking at how to add and subtract the ones, adding and subtracting 3 digit and 1 digit numbers, and adding 2 digit and 1 digit numbers together. Click on the link below to choose a game you could play at home this week to support your learning of these skills.

Topic: We will be asking the question, 'Why did a small Greek army win the Battle of Marathon?' this week. We will be considering the formation of soldiers that this Greek army used and trying it for ourselves in class. This will help to start a discussion to see if we can agree on the most important reasons why this army won the battle. Have you heard the word 'marathon' before? We will also be finding out why a marathon is named as such! Click on the link below to hear the Horrible Histories take on the historical event...

Art: Some of us will be finishing our Medusa paintings this week. Then we will be making a start on our Greek Column pictures. Using paper straws, we will cut them to size to create our own Greek temples.

Science: We have named the bones of our human skeletons and this week, we are going to consider the function of our skeleton. What would happen to us if we didn't have skeletons? Click on the link below to find out more about our skeletal system.

Spellings: Well done to all of you who have shown me how much practising you have been doing at home. You have shown good progress in your test scores throughout the week. We will keep practising throughout the week at school too, as well as learning our new common exception words.

Date to Remember: On Tuesday after school this week, I will be hosting a short class meeting. I will be introducing Year 3 to the parents, outlining the national curriculum objectives for this year group as well as reinforcing the expectations for this year. Please can all parents attend this meeting if possible. I will be providing paper copies of my notes in children's book bags for any parents who cannot attend. Please let me know via Class dojo if you are able to attend or not. The meeting will take place in Maple Classroom from 3:30pm, as soon as I have dismissed the children at the end of the day.

That's all for this week!
