Your children are working really hard and getting used to the routines of Oak. This week we are starting our topic of 'hot' which is all about Africa, safari and comparing the UK to Africa.
Literacy - We will being a unit of work about 'Meerkat Mail'. This book has lots of postcards written by the character as he goes on his adventures. Maybe you have a blank postcard at home or you might visit somewhere that sells one and could write one to the school? Alternatively, maybe write a letter to the school for us to read out in class?
This week we will be sequencing the story, looking at the Days of the Week (can they tell you them in order, write them, say which day comes after say Tuesday?) and writing a postcard. We will be continuing to work on finger spaces, capital letters and full stops. Year 2 we will be looking at commas and exclamation marks.
commas in a list Can they write a list using commas?
Maths - This week year 1 will be doing more counting and number correspondence, counting forwards and backwards from a number and also looking at the more than and less than sign. Can they accurately count objects at home and write that number? Can they count forwards and back e.g. start on 7. Can they be challenged with higher numbers?
Year 2 will be working on tens and ones in a part whole method and place value chart and comparing objects and numbers. Can the partition a number and tell you how many tens and ones there are? Can they draw it (represent the number in sticks and dots)?
Topic- We will be looking at hot countries and locating them on a map, looking at the equator. We will explore GoogleMaps again as we enjoyed that last week. We will be looking at where Kenya is on a map.
In art we will be mixing hot colours and creating a collage of hot colours using a variety of materials.
Computers - We will remind ourselves how to log onto the school computers and play some games on Purple Mash. We will learn a bit about online safety.
On Friday they do Music and have an RE session.
