I hope you have all had a lovely weekend.
Last week, was another fantastic week. We have really been enjoying our new Ancient Greece topic. Our Medusa descriptions have been a labour of love with many children finishing these pieces of writing ready to be displayed on our 'Wow Work' board this week. We has been mastering skills in PE, computing, art as well as literacy and maths. Here's to another great week!
Topic: This week, we are finding out about Alexander the Great. Who was he and what made him so 'great'? We will look at the impact he had on the Ancient Greeks and why he is still remembered to this day.
Art: We have finished our Medusa sketches and are now ready to begin adding some colour. We will be painting in stages, starting with the base colours before adding more detail. Photos of these will be added to the dojo this week, I promise!
PE: We are continuing with football on Monday and Gymnastics on Thursday. We will be using the Cruyff turn to help us to have more control of the ball when passing to our partners in football. On Thursday, we will be introducing rolls to our sequences.
Science: This week, we move onto learning about the skeleton and naming the bones. How many bones in the body can you name? We will be hunting for the scientific names hidden around the classroom before labelling our very own skeletons in groups. I wonder how many of these names we will be able to pronounce?!
Literacy: We are reading a new Greek myth this week and using our knowledge of expanded noun phrases to describe the mythological creature of the Minotaur.
Maths: We are onto week 3 of our place value unit this week, comparing numbers using the language of 'more than', 'less than' and 'equal to'. We will finish the week by applying our knowledge of 3 digit numbers by solving some place value problems.
We are also going to start our weekly Times Tables Rockstars session this week so do get practising at home. Logins should be stuck on the inside of the back cover of your child's reading diary along with their Purple Mash logins.
Spellings: We are revising how to use apostrophes to write contracted words. Again, please support your child with the rules for adding apostrophes. The children will be quizzed on Monday to see how many of these words they already know and then again on Friday to see if they have made any progress. Dojos will be given for those children who can show they have been practising at home during the week and have made progress. These are still year 2 spelling patterns for now so once your child can show me they have mastered these, they will be moving onto the year 3 spelling patterns.
REMEMBER: Individual school photos are this week on WEDNESDAY 22nd.
That's all for now. Any urgent messages I will be sure to message you on the class dojo.
Have a lovely week!
