Literacy

I will be using two texts to teach with this half term; The Iron Man and The Robot and the Bluebird. Ask your child which group they are in to find out what they have been learning.

The Iron Man group: We will be reading the first chapter together and answering some initial questions. The children will be labelling their own pictures of the Iron Man before and after he fell from the cliff, them using the description from the text to help them.

The Bluebird group: We will read this story as a group, taking a page each to read aloud. Stopping at key parts of the story to discuss how the characters are feeling and making predictions about what we think will happen, we will answer questions and begin to design our own robots.

Maths

Y3: The children are onto the second unit of Fractions this half term. We start the week by adding fractions, before learning how to subtract fractions  and partition the whole.

4: The children are onto the second unit of Decimals. This week, they will be making a whole using tenths, partitioning decimals and comparing.

Art

We are focusing on sculpture this half term, learning how to use different media to create our own sculptures. We will begin this week by learning and finding out about the sculptor Marcus Coates. His work looks at birds' nests as he takes his inspiration from nature.

Computing

Y3: The children will be using micro-bits this half term to explore coding.

Y4: The children will be coding, designing code and using it to debug programmes.

RE

We will be learning about Hinduism this half term, asking the big question, 'What spiritual pathways to moksha are written about in Hindu scriptures?'

History

Y3: The Mayans. We will be meeting the Maya this week, finding out where they appear on the timeline and discovering why they are considered so important.

Y4: The Romans. We will be learning who the Romans were and how they built their empire.

Y5: The Kingdom of Benin. We will be finding out how the Kingdom of Benin developed.
