Easter Day

Easter Break!

Well done to all parents who have been juggling working from home & somehow managing to entertain / teach your own children at the same time for the last two weeks! This hasn't been an easy time for any of us but hopefully we are getting into the swing of things a bit more now.

For the next two weeks, I will not be updating the class homepage daily as I would like to encourage the children to 'take a break' from schooling. Instead, I thought I would post just a few ideas of what you could be doing to keep them entertained. Send me some pictures of any activities you do!

Have a lovely Easter & I will be back on Monday 20th April to update the Oak Class page with daily activities.

Stay safe, stay at home!

Love Mrs Westbrook x

w/b 23rd March 2020 - Home School!

Good morning everyone! Well, this feels very strange indeed! The time has come for us to 'play schools' from home so here is a timetable that you could follow ...

9:00am Do some exercise to get your brains working. Try Joe Wicks LIVE or any other free YouTube fitness routine.

9:15am Read a story - a chapter book, or picture book.

9:30am Help your parents out with chores, make your bed and clean your room.

10:00am Choose an activity from your booklet, perhaps a page of the maths booklet.

10:30am Have a break & eat a healthy snack.

11:00am Choose a different activity from your booklet, perhaps one of your phonics booklet pages.

12:00am Help your parents to make lunch, have lunch, clear lunch away.

1:00pm Choose another activity of your choice. You could paint a picture, play a game in the garden or write a letter to a friend ready to post.

2:00pm Calm time, reading, drawing, yoga, mindfulness.

2:30pm Spend some time outside.

I will be at home today with my children doing something very similar. I will be online again at the end of the day to update this page with messages, as well as being available through email or Purple Mash. Please feel free to send me messages & I will do my best to reply.

Have a lovely sunny day Oak Class. I will miss seeing all your faces today! Be kind to your parents, its a tricky time for us all!

Please be rest assured we are doing all we can to keep your children safe & healthy. Regular hand washing is happening before & after play times, snack times & lunch times. We are currently holding assembly in the classroom to limit meeting in such large groups. As far as routine is concerned, it is business as usual!

In the likely event of forced school closure, there will be packs of work available for your child so that home learning can still take place. It will include maths, writing, spelling & phonics activities to last approximately 2 weeks. I will also provide an A4 exercise book of lined paper for any writing your child may like to do. Please try to engage with your children in these activities to ensure they still receive the level of support needed.

Reading: Unfortunately, libraries are now closed but please keep reading any books you may have at home. Oxford Owl Reading site are offering free e-books so do check out their website. You may wish to record any reading you do with your child at home, or write book reviews, stories  or fact files based on what you have read. Our current topic is the Woodlands but your reading doesn't have to link to this directly for now.

Maths: The White Rose Hub is offering a free 'Problem of the Day' which you could sign up for & challenge your child to. Primary Stars has a fantastic website offering free resources for parents at this time but you may need a printer should you wish to use this. Maths Shed is another great website!

Writing: Your children are always to encouraged to write at any opportunity! Why not keep a diary over the next few days / weeks? Or ask your child to write a shopping list before your next trip to the supermarket. They could write a story about an adventure in the garden with mythical creatures or an enchanted wood.

Purple Mash: I will be updating the Purple Mash site daily should we be closed. Please do encourage your child to log in at home & carry out any 'Alerts' they may have. These activities will be linked to our topics or the curriculum objectives we would be due to cover in class. I would like to make myself accessible to you as much as I can in this time with the understanding that I will be home schooling my own children should we close. There is a link to be able to email me via Purple Mash which I will be encouraging the children to use if they have any questions for me. Even if it's just to say 'hello'! I will be checking Purple Mash and my school email address daily to ensure I respond to any questions or concerns you may have.

This is a very fast moving situation so keep checking the website for more up-to-date information.

Stay safe everyone! Mrs W :)
