June 2017

Summer Fete

What a fantastic day! Well done to Kerry, Sarah and all the PTA team, the parents and friends of Fittleworth school who came together to make the Fete such a success. The atmosphere was lovely, the weather stayed dry and everyone had lots of fun. At the time of writing this newsletter the final amount hadn’t been tallied but was expected to be over £2000! Brilliant!

France

The children in Year 6 are off to France on 13th June for a four night stay in Le Touquet. They travel by coach and ferry staying in a hotel on the coast. Whilst they are in France the children will explore Le Touquet and it’s fantastic beaches and sand dunes, go to a traditional market, learn how to make French pastries and chocolates, visit an amazing sea life centre and a WWII museum amongst other things! We hope they all have a great time.

Cedar Class Trip

On 21st June the children in Cedar will visit Arundel where they will make pizzas at Pizza Express and then spend the afternoon at Arundel Lido. They have all worked extremely hard this year so we hope they enjoy this fun planned trip. Thank you to the PTA for funding this day.

Year 4 Trip.

The children in Year 4 will also be out on 21st June. They will be spending the day at Coultershaw Pump with other local schools where they will have the opportunity complete four interesting activities.

The first will be handling real Stone Age objects, weaving some cord and using it to make objects, helping them make the connection to the River Rother, and its link to the Arun, the surrounding landscape and human habitation, and the resources locally that would lead to the canal being built.

Secondly they will do some art work with artist Dominique Kenway.  The third activity is exploring and learning about the waterside habitat and the trees that grow at Coultershaw and finally there will be active mapping including time to explore the pump room and water wheel.

Leaver’s Service

On Friday 23rd June the Year 6 children will have the first of their two leavers services. This one is at Chichester Cathedral where the children come together with other year 6 children to help them prepare to leave their current school and move onto pastures new.

Sponsored Run

The children will be taking part in a sponsored run on Monday 26th June as part of National Sports Week. The aim of the event is to raise money for Technology to be used in our school including the upgrading of computers, printers etc; investment in new software and other IT resources such as Be Bops, cameras, recorders and digital magnifiers. The event will involve the children completing laps of the village sports field. We hope that family and friends will join in and sponsor the children so we can provide them with these much needed IT resources. Children will also be asked to bring £1 to purchase a Monday muffin.

Beech Class Trip

The children in Reception will be visiting Pulborough Brooks on 26th June as part of this term’s topic of mini-beasts. The children will be able to pond dip and hunt for mini beasts!

 Transition Day

On Wednesday 28th June all the children will experience their new classes. The children in Year who are going to MRC will spend the day there, the children in Years 1-5 will all join their new classes for the morning and we welcome our new Reception children who will be spending the morning in Beech class and having lunch with us. We look forward to welcoming them to our school.
